Description
No. 198 on Wallisdown Road is a picturesque cottage built after 1870, marked with the initials "M T" for Marianne Talbot. The cottage features a ground floor and a semi-attic, constructed of red brick. It has an asymmetrical T-shaped plan with a gable end facing the road and a steeply pitched roof. There is a gabled porch alongside the main structure. The windows are mullioned casements with diamond lattice glazing. The gable ends include canted bays with hipped roofs on the ground floor and 2-light windows on the first floor. The roofs are adorned with ornamental scalloped tiles arranged in bands that alternate with ordinary tiles, and they have overhanging tiles and plain bargeboards. At the rear, there are two projecting single-storey wings; one has a monopitch roof while the other features two pitched roofs arranged in echelon. All the listed buildings on Wallisdown Road and Columbia Road are part of a group.
