Description

No 12A on Castle Street is a building from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick and has a tiled roof. The building stands two storeys high and features seven windows, all of which are casements, except for the three barred sash windows on the ground floor at the southeastern side. There are three doors on the building. Although it is numbered on Castle Street, it is entirely located on Millhams Street.

This building is included in Grade II for its group value with nearby structures. It forms part of a group that includes Nos 4 to 6 (even), 6a, 8 to 12 (even), 14 to 18 (even), and the King's Arms Hotel, as well as Nos 1 to 11 (odd) opposite, the Castle, the signboard of the King's Arms Hotel, and the Constable's House and Town Bridge. Nos 10, 12, and 12A also contribute to a group on Millhams Street, with the Town Bridge forming part of a group to the east. Nos 8 and 10 are noted as buildings of local interest.
