Description
No. 3 Castle Street is an early 19th-century building with a facade that suggests it was originally part of an earlier structure. The building is made of painted brick and has three storeys with two windows, likely indicating it was a former warehouse. The top eastern window is set in what appears to be part of a former loft door. The windows are generally early 19th-century casements with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a small, recessed modern shop front and a square carriage arch that provides access to the rear. Timber framing can be seen in the side passage.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 11 (odd), the Castle, the signboard of the King's Arms Hotel, the Constable's House, and the Town Bridge, along with Nos 4 to 6 (even), 6A, 8 to 12 (even), 12A, 14 to 18 (even), and the Kings Arms Hotel opposite Nos 10, 12, and 12A, as well as Nos 8 and 10, which are buildings of local interest.
