Description
1 Castle Street is a building dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick and features a moulded cornice and parapet. The roof is not visible. The building has three storeys and three windows, which are sash windows with segmental arches and end glazing bars. There is a round arched doorway adorned with a moulded archivolt and keystone, along with a fanlight above the door. The ground floor has two modern shop fronts.
This building, along with numbers 1 to 11 (odd), the Castle, the signboard of the King's Arms Hotel, the Constable's House, and the Town Bridge, forms a group with numbers 4 to 6 (even), 6a, 8 to 12 (even), 12a, 14 to 18 (even), and the King's Arms Hotel opposite numbers 10, 12, and 12A, which collectively contribute to the historical character of the area.
