Description
6 and 6A Castle Street is an early 19th-century building with a stucco facade featuring an eaves cornice and a coped blocking course. The roof is not visible. The building has three storeys, with two sash windows on the top floor and a five-light sash window on the first floor, all of which have glazing bars. The ground floor has a symmetrical office front with panelled side doors.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 4 to 6 (even), 6A, 8 to 12 (even), 12A, 14 to 18 (even), and the King's Arms Hotel, as well as Nos 1 to 11 (odd) opposite, the Castle, the signboard of the King's Arms Hotel, and the Constable's House and Town Bridge across the street. Nos 10, 12, and 12A also contribute to a group on Millhams Street, and the Town Bridge is part of a group to the east. Nos 8 and 10 are recognized as buildings of local interest.
