Description
Ye Old George Inne is a timber-framed building that was refaced in the 18th century with painted brick. It stands two storeys high and features three narrow sash windows on the first floor, which have moulded flush frames and late 19th-century glazing. The building has a modillion eaves cornice and a tiled roof.
On the ground floor, there is a wide carriage archway in the center, with the ground floor advanced on each side. The entrance door is located to the west and is structurally part of No 76 High Street. This doorway is adorned with pilasters, a pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight. The inn has eastern and western rear ranges on either side of a courtyard, and stone flags pave the street facade.
Ye Old George Inne is part of an important focal group at the intersection of the town's main streets, alongside Nos 67 and 76 High Street and No 1 Church Street. No 67 High Street is noted as a building of local interest.
