Description
The Old Malt House is a late 18th century to early 19th century red brick warehouse located on Millhams Street. The north end facade has been rebuilt and features a tile-hung gable end. The roof is hipped at the south end and covered with modern pantiles. The building stands three storeys tall and has three windows, which are generally late 18th century to early 19th century casements with cowered head linings. However, the ground floor has barred windows, and the top floor has modern casements along with a hoist door at the north end. There is an entrance at the south end. Inside, the first floor is open to the roof and features an open tread timber staircase and a platform with iron hoist machinery. This building is an important part of the group scene on Millhams Street, which includes No 12A Castle Street and the side facades of Nos 10 and 12 Castle Street, known as The Olde Barne and The Old Malt House, with No 10 Castle Street being of local interest.
