Description
1 Bridge Street is a building dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, consisting of three sections that form an L-shape. The oldest part faces the street and is stuccoed, featuring long and short quoins and a string course at the first floor. It has a tiled roof and is two storeys high with three windows that have unbarred sashes. There is a rusticated carriageway arch with triple keys at the centre of the ground floor.
The river facade, which is from the early 19th century, is made of painted brick and has a slate roof. This section is also two storeys high and has five windows with sashes that include glazing bars and wooden shutters. The southern bay is lower and has a half hipped gable end. There is one curved window at the first floor on the south end and a square modern bay at the ground floor. The rounded street facade is located at the north-west end.
1 Bridge Street is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 7 (odd) and Nos 1 to 5 (consecutive) on Willow Place, as well as Nos 2 to 2 (even) and the Town Bridge on Castle Street. Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive) on Willow Place and No 22 Bridge Street are also of local interest.
