Description
Crooked Cottage is a Grade II listed house located in Dunkerton, dating from 1695. The building is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings and features double Roman tile roofs and ashlar stacks, with one brick replacement. It has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys high with an attic.
The south elevation has three windows; the first floor features single lights with ovolo-moulded frames under hood moulds, while the ground floor has a similar window and a two-light window beneath a continuous string. This elevation also includes a plain later door frame with a 20th-century half-glazed door and a lean-to hood. At the far right, there is an oeil de boeuf with four keystones, and to the left, a gable rises with coping and kneelers, featuring two similar oeil de boeuf windows in the attic and quoins on both sides.
The left (west) return has two storeys with two windows; to the left are single lights similar to those on the front but without hoods, and to the right is a two-light window above a string that is interrupted by an inserted 20th-century door in a reconstructed stone frame. The gabled elevation facing the road has a single light window for the cellar below a continuous string, with a plank door to the right. The ground floor features blank single lights under a continuous string, while the first floor has a blocked oeil de boeuf and a coat of arms, with a date stone in the attic and quoins.
The rear of the cottage has a continuous string below a first-floor single light.
