Description

These are two semi-detached villas, dating from approximately 1830 to 1840. They were constructed using limestone ashlar and have slate roofs. The buildings are compact and symmetrical, featuring a low-pitched hipped roof and porches extending to the sides.

Each villa has two storeys and a regular pattern of windows. The windows are plain sashes with sliding Venetian blinds and square sills supported by square brackets. Number 49 has paired sashes to a central stone mullion on the ground floor. A slightly recessed central bay is present, along with a plain eaves band, deep eaves with rafter brackets, and a central ashlar stack. The left-hand side has a first-floor sash above a single-storey hipped porch with a panelled door beneath a tent hood, with two windows on the return wall to a wing set behind the main building. The right-hand side features a two-storey square porch in plain ashlar, with a door to the right and small arched lights within the returns. A deep, low-gabled wing extends to the rear.

The interior of the villas were not inspected during the listing process. These villas are part of a series of similar properties along this road. Although they are not depicted on the Prior Park estate map of 1828, they are mentioned in the Bath Guide of 1853.
