Description

These are semi-detached villas dating to the 1830s and 1840s. They are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs. The villas have a compact, symmetrical design, featuring a low-pitched hipped roof and short wings with high gabled roofs.

The front facades are two storeys, each with two windows. The windows are plain sash windows with square sills, and those on the ground floor are lowered close to floor level. A tent hood made of light wrought iron trellis extends across the full width, returning four bays to the flank of number 59, and incorporates a slight terrace that functions as a plinth. An eaves band is present, and the deep eaves are supported by rafter brackets. A central ashlar stack is also visible. To the left is a single-storey, square porch with a door leading up a short flight of steps and small arched windows on the returns, all beneath a twelve-pane sash window and a blind light.

To the rear, a high, gabled wing sits upon brackets, featuring a large ashlar stack, a side door, and sashes offering rear views. To the right, number 59 has a door and sash window beneath the returned hood and a canted bay window with sash windows. A smaller gabled wing, similar to the adjacent one, has a stack and a rear eaves stack. This wing includes plain sash windows, as well as sliding Venetian blinds on its flank and rear.

The interiors have not been inspected. These villas are part of a group of similar, slightly varied properties along this section of Priory Park Road. They were not included on a Prior Park estate map from 1828, but were mentioned in the Bath Guide of 1853.
