Description
No. 18 and attached railings is a terrace house, built around 1775 and converted to flats in the 20th century. The front of the building is limestone ashlar, while the basement is rubble and the rear is a mix of ashlar and rubble. It has a mansard roof with double Roman tiles to the front and concrete tiles to the rear, along with a coped party wall to the left and two ashlar stacks incorporating some early clay pots. A staircase is located at the rear.
The house is three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has a three-window front. The first floor has three grouped plate glass sash windows with horns, slightly narrower on the left and right, set in splayed reveals with a continuous stone sill. The ground floor features paired sashes to the left, also in splayed reveals with a continuous stone sill, and a six-panel door with a flush beaded, fielded panel and single glazing, within a pedimented Doric doorcase. A single step leads to a concrete-paved crossover with a cast iron footscraper. The basement windows are two-light sashes within a splayed reveal and stone sill, with a 20th-century door below the crossover. A double dormer window features plate glass sashes. A band course runs above the ground floor, and a moulded eaves cornice and rebuilt coped parapet of reconstituted Bath Stone are present. The rear elevation also has plate glass sash windows with horns. The interior has not been inspected.
Attached wrought iron railings with shaped heads sit on limestone bases.
