Description

This is a terrace house, dating from around 1775, and later converted for use as flats in the 20th century. The front of the house is faced with limestone ashlar, with rubble construction to the basement and the rear. It has a double-pile layout and a mansard roof, covered with concrete tiles on the upper slopes and Welsh slate on the lower. The left party wall has been rebuilt in concrete blockwork extending from two stacks. A staircase is located at the rear.

The building is three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has a three-window front. The first floor features plate glass sash windows to the left and right, and a four/four sash in the centre, all set in splayed reveals with lowered stone sills and wrought iron balconettes. The second floor has three plate glass, horned sashes, also in splayed reveals with stone sills. On the ground floor, there are similar sashes to the left, and a six-panel door with a flush, fielded and single glazed panel within a pedimented Doric doorcase with a fluted frieze. Two steps lead to a pennant-paved crossover, which includes a 19th-century cast iron footscraper. The basement has two 20th-century sashes and a blocked doorway. A band course is positioned above the ground floor, and there’s a moulded eaves cornice and a coped parapet. A lead hopperhead is located at the eaves to the left. The rear elevation features 19th- and 20th-century sash windows, including one with coloured glass borders to the first half-landing. The interior was not inspected during the listing process. Attached wrought iron railings, with shaped tops on limestone bases, complete the property.
