Description
The Grotto, located 150 yards south of Claverton Manor, is a structure likely built around 1820, though it may be older. It features a central niche with ashlar voussoirs and an impost band, set within a wall that is approximately 12 feet high and made of irregular, weathered stones. The Grotto has a moulded cornice and a blocking course. The niche includes a carved shell at the top and a lion's mask water spout at the bottom, along with a square projecting plinth and basin.
