Description
Old Cot Rill Cottage is a row of three houses dating from the early 19th century, located on Combe Road in Combe Down. The buildings are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature slate or pantile roofs.
The houses are two storeys high. Number 26 has a slate roof and displays two eight-pane sash windows on each floor. To the right, there is a central 20th-century gabled stone porch, leading to a plank door with a transom light that opens into a throughway. At the rear, there are two large ashlar eaves stacks. Numbers 28 and 30 form a pair with pantile roofs, each featuring one window with plain sashes. Old Cot has a uPVC sash window and a 20th-century door, while Rill Cottage has a six-panel door and an additional four-panel door to the left, continuing the main front. Both houses share a square ashlar stack and have coped gables.
The interiors have not been inspected. These houses represent a typical group of artisanal homes, likely connected to the quarrying industry for which Combe Down was well-known during this period.
