Description

The Woodlands is a detached villa dating from the mid-19th century, with later 20th-century additions. The building is a complex of three connected sections, originally designed around a near-symmetrical central villa with a projecting gabled wing. Entry is off-centre to the right, opposite a smaller projecting wing at the rear. All sections are under a low-pitched slate roof with overhanging eaves and verges, hipped at the rear. A gabled wing is attached to the left, slightly set back, and features a large, late 20th-century conservatory at the front. The right wing has a gable facing the front, centred in relation to the original villa.

The original central range has a facade of one:one:three windows, all with plain sash windows, architraves, and keystones. A stone balcony with an arched light sits above the centre gable, along with three sash windows and a two-light casement with a transom light. Four-pane sashes are positioned above a gabled porch with panelled doors and a fanlight. The building has ridge stacks with bracketed cappings flanking the centre gable, and a further valley stack. The rear elevation features large plain sashes and a doorway. The wing to the left has three sash windows above a large, 20th-century gabled conservatory, with exposed rafter ends and a stack to the left with a deep overhanging gable verge; the rear has three sashes and a door. The right wing is in a Tudor style, featuring a coped gable over a three-light casement with a transom. The return front incorporates a central square bay with a three-light window at each level. The rear gable is plain, with a ridge stack. The interiors were not inspected.
