Description

Foxhill Grove Farm is a detached villa built around 1830, with later additions from the 19th century and alterations from the 20th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, with some areas rendered, and features a replacement slate roof. The complex plan includes projecting gables facing the road and garden, along with a slightly lower wing in the re-entrant angle between these. Access was originally through the center of the wing but is now via a later 19th-century porch on the right.

The villa is designed in the Tudor Revival style and stands two storeys high with varied casements. The garden front showcases a high coped gable on the left, featuring a tall two-light casement window with stone mullions and transoms, as well as canted heads. Above this, there are small pane casements and a similar window with a segmental head and a stopped drip course. To the right, there is a lower two-window range that is rendered, with face gables over two small two-light casements that have margin panes and raised plat surrounds. Above these are deep two-light margin pane casements with stone Y-tracery and segmental heads with a drip course. Between these is a single-storey unrendered porch with splayed corners, French casements that match the windows, and a small arched lancet window on the splays and returns, all beneath an entablature.

To the right, there is a single-storey ashlar wing with a panelled door beneath a four-centred head and a drip course, topped with a stone shield. This low wing has two-light wooden windows on the side and rear. Below each steep gable is a corbel table that continues as an eaves cornice. A deep ashlar stack with four flues is located at the junction of the ridges, along with a single stack on the right gable.

The road front features a gable to the left that mirrors the fenestration of the garden front, slightly set back, and a wing with corbel table eaves. There is a canted bay projection with a two-light casement window featuring a transom and a cambered head with a drip course, along with a small pane casement above. The rear includes paired and single sash windows above a paired door with a three-pane transom light, all under a glazed canopy. The villa is a picturesque example with Mannerist details, set in extensive grounds.
