Description

Lyncombe Grove and Paragon House are two terrace houses located on Lyncombe Vale Road, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are constructed from limestone ashlar, with some rubble, and feature slate roofs.

Lyncombe Grove has three storeys plus an attic, with three windows on the front. It includes a small four-pane dormer above a twelve-pane sash window, flanked by tripartite eight-twelve-eight-pane sashes. These windows are set within plat stone architraves and mullions. The ground floor features a 20th-century door to the left, followed by a fielded panel door with a radial fanlight in a moulded archivolt, and a pair of French casements. The lower two floors are rendered and painted, with a platband above the first floor, a moulded cornice with a blocking course, and a parapet with coped gables and two-stage stacks. The right return is built of rubble and has a two-storey set-back extension. The left return has two glazing bar sashes at each level, with sliding horizontal louvered shutters, and the cornice and parapet details extend across the base of the gable from the front.

Paragon House is attached to the left of the end gable of Lyncombe Grove and consists of two parts. The main section has a three-bay range with a high hipped roof, and there is a further two-bay range with an added wing at the front. The windows are generally twelve-pane sashes with louvered shutters, and there is a central panelled door with a fanlight under a hood supported by brackets. Platbands are present at both the ground and first floors, with a cornice and blocking course that continues from the adjoining gable. A tall stack is located between the two parts of the house, with an additional small stack on the front wall. The interiors have not been inspected.
