Description

Tudor Lodge is a detached villa built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It features a construction of ashlar stone and a diagonal pantile roof. The building has a long, single-depth layout divided into three parts, all designed in a picturesque Tudor style.

The main section has a hipped roof and is flanked by a slightly angled section on the left and a gabled return wing on the right. The exterior is two storeys high with a total of five windows across the front. The left part has paired eight-pane casements set in raised surrounds with a small hollow chamfer. Above these are thin stone mullions leading to small four-pane windows and a large multi-pane light with a four-centred head and a drip course. A broad gabled porch shelters a panelled, part-glazed door, also with a four-centred head.

The right half features two-light small-pane casements above a continuous tiled veranda supported by rustic posts. This veranda covers a deep three-light small-pane casement with pointed heads and a larger four-light window with horizontal bars. The gable end on the right has a 20th-century three-light window. The ridges of the roof are adorned with decorative cresting.

On the right half, there is an ashlar ridge stack with six diagonal conjoined flues and a common moulded capping. Similar stacks with two flues are located on the left and right gables, along with a small stack at the rear eaves on the left. A short returned wing, added later, has a slate roof that is hipped at the outer end, featuring a two-light casement at the front and a deep gabled conservatory. The rear wall, which is set against a slope, is quite plain with two very small lights and one two-light window matching the front. There is a slight break between the different parts of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
