Description
Ardenlee is a detached house built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It features a construction of ashlar stone and has slate and pantile roofs. The building has a plain rectangular shape, with a slight return wing at the rear and an entrance porch on the right. Attached to this is a later gabled range at a higher level, adjacent to North Road, which includes a flat-roofed garage.
The house is two storeys tall, with a blind attic course and three windows on the front. The windows are plain sashes with net balconettes and a sill band on the first floor. There is a small conservatory at the corner of the ground floor. On the right side, there is a twelve-pane sash window above a flat-roofed porch that has a panelled, part-glazed door beneath an ogee hood, with a margin pane sash to the left on the ground floor. The left side features two wide-spaced twelve-pane sashes with balconettes above two sash windows. The block has a high attic with sunk panels above the windows, a plain cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet.
At the rear, the inset wing has a blind light with a straight-sided pointed arch above a small sash window. The house has ashlar end stacks and one stack at the rear. The wing facing North Road has coped gables, a small quatrefoil oculus, and 20th-century casement windows. There is a door at the upper street level, and to the right, there is an extra bay with a splayed corner. The interior has not been inspected.
