Description

The Advent Church, also known as Orange Grove Hall, is a Seventh Day Adventist Church built around 1820, with some alterations and additions made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, with some parts rendered, and features a Welsh slate roof.

The church is a small, single-storey hall that is oriented at right angles to Kingston Buildings. The west entrance front is made of ashlar and is flanked by broad plain pilasters that frame a recessed central section. This area has a moulded returned cornice and a parapet that is raised and breaks forward over the entrance, complete with moulded coping. The flanking sections of the parapet have a blocking course and terminal dies topped with small panelled caps. The doorway is set within a rectangular panel that reaches up to the cornice and has a plain surround. Above the door, there is a row of three marginal glazed lights that extend the full width of the panel at doorhead level, and the door itself is a panelled design dating from around 1920.

On the north side, the elevation consists of four bays of rendered walling that are divided by ashlar piers. The first three bays feature plain six-over-six sash windows set in reveals. A central lantern is present on the roof. The interior has not been inspected.
