Description

Kings Cliffe Congregational Church is a Congregational church built around 1842, with some remodeling in the late 19th century. The church is constructed of squared coursed limestone with an ashlar facade and features a Welsh slate roof. It is a single-unit church with a school room attached to the rear. The gable end at the back has a three-window range at the upper level. The central entrance consists of fielded panelled double doors set within a rusticated surround, complete with a frieze and pediment above. The flanking windows and upper windows are late 19th century but retain their original openings, featuring arched glazing bars with Art Nouveau coloured glass. The windows have square heads with rusticated surrounds, and the corners of the building are accentuated with rusticated quoins. A pediment with a moulded cornice sits above the entrance, and the roof is shallow gabled. The side elevations include tall windows with similar glazing to the main front, supported by stone lintels with keyblocks. The single-storey school room at the rear is also part of the structure. Inside, there is a small panelled vestibule with six panelled doors, a plain panelled pulpit with a flight of steps and stick balustrade, and plain panelled pews. The floor around the pulpit was raised in the late 19th century.
