Description
This is a late 17th and 19th-century house, now divided into two dwellings. It is located on the north side of West Street, Kingscliffe. The exterior is of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a four-unit plan, the house now has a five-window front. The upper floor features two three-light stone mullion windows with ovolo moulding and hood moulds on the right side, a pair of similar single-light windows in the centre, and leaded casement windows on the left side, all under wooden lintels. A 19th-century canted bay with a slate roof is situated on the far right ground floor, and a similar bay with sash windows and a flat roof is located to the left of centre. The ground floor also has windows with glazing bars under wooden lintels towards the right and far left. A six-panel, part-glazed door is set under a wooden lintel to the right of the centre. Two gabled eaves dormers are present, the one on the right having leaded lights. The house has ashlar gable parapets, a central ashlar cruciform stack, and brick and ashlar stacks at each end. Rear additions include a gabled stair turret and single-storey lean-to extensions. The interior, though not inspected, is noted for a room containing scratch moulded panelling, a dentilled cornice, and a corner cupboard, which are likely from the early 18th century.
