Description

NUMBER 41 AND ATTACHED SHOP is an early 19th-century house and shop, originally built as a house and attached butcher's shop. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with an ashlar facade and a Welsh slate roof, set on a T-shaped plan. The front facade has a symmetrical 4-window range, featuring 8-panel sash windows with stone lintels incorporating keyblocks. The central entrance has a 6-panel door with a rectangular fanlight and a moulded wooden doorcase, adorned with roundels and a pediment. A shop window on the right side has a pair of part-glazed stable doors beneath a continuous stone lintel and three keyblocks. A chamfered plinth and a raised band mark the floors, with a moulded wooden cornice and ashlar gable parapets topping the building. Stone stacks are located at the ridge and the end. A 2-storey rear wing, with a lean-to roof in part, contains 19th-century casement windows. The interior was noted to have early 19th-century fittings, though it was not inspected.
