Description
No. 6 Little Stanhope Street is a small house built around 1775, as evidenced by a lease of 9 dated November 16th, 1774. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with a slate and pantile roof. It is attached to the rear of No. 35 New King Street, with the ridge line extending through to the rear slope of that building.
The two-storey house with an attic and basement has two two-light dormers in the roof. The first and ground floors feature paired plain sash windows with a flush mullion. To the left is a part-glazed six-panel door. The exterior includes a small cavetto cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet. A coped gable, covered with slate on the lower slope and pantiles on the upper slope, is located on the left side of the mansard roof. A two-stage ashlar chimney stack is situated on the right. The left return side steps down to a lower level by means of a flight of concrete steps, with a two-light casement window at two levels, each with a wooden lintel, and a service door leading to the basement. The rear elevation is constructed of rubble with no visible openings. The interior of the property has not been inspected, but a straight join exists between the house and the rear of No. 35 New King Street.
