Description

This is a house in a terrace, dating to circa 1771. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a double Roman tile roof. The building is part of a short terrace situated within a narrow courtyard off New King Street.

The exterior presents two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with all windows being twelve-pane sashes. There are two dormers above a tripartite sash window, and two separate sashes on the ground floor. A six-panel door is located on the left-hand side, sheltered by a flat stone hood supported on brackets. A small plinth extends to the left, and a platband sits above the ground floor, directly above a full-width wooden lintel. A small cavetto cornice with a deep blocking course is topped by a parapet; a straight joint in the masonry runs vertically along the left side. A stack is present on the right.

The interior has not been inspected. The house is part of a carefully restored group of buildings designed by Aaron Evans, the architect who worked on the terrace between 1983 and 1984, having previously been in poor condition. The terrace represents a notable survival of artisanal housing, originally laid out around a close.
