Description

No. 9 St Ann's Place is a house at the end of a terrace, dating from around 1770. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and has a slate roof. The building rises three storeys, with an attic and basement.

The front facing St Ann's Place features two twelve-pane dormers above a single nine-pane sash window on the first and second floors, with a twelve-pane window at ground level. To the right, there is a six-panel door. A platband above the ground floor is inscribed with "ST ANNE'S PLACE" in fine incised Roman lettering, positioned just above a full-width wooden lintel. There is a small cavetto drip course above the first floor and a similar drip over the second floor that covers only part of the width. The high mansard roof has a hipped end.

The front facing New King Street has two widely spaced twelve-pane sash dormers above a twelve-pane window on the second floor and paired twelve-pane windows on the first floor, with the left window being smaller. The ground floor features a wide shopfront with pilasters, a central recessed door, and a fascia with a dentil cornice, along with a further panelled door on the far right. The platband and wooden lintel are interrupted by the shopfront. There is a small drip course at the first floor and a cornice with a deep blocking course and parapet. At the rear, there is a large square stack and a smaller centred stack.

The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a significant group of artisan housing laid out around a close.
