Description

These are three pairs of semi-detached houses at 1-6 Malvern Villas, built around 1870. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar. Originally, they had elaborate roofs with Bridgwater tile cresting and moulded stacks to the party walls, although some now have slate roofs to the wings. The plan features a double-depth layout with narrow, set-back entrance wings.

The houses are three storeys high with a lower ground floor, and each has a two-window front. They are characterised by good pierced scalloped bargeboards with timber finials and pendants to both forward and rear facing gables. Other distinctive features include exaggerated long/short chamfered quoins and panels to the party walls, bolection moulded four-panel doors with overlights, keystones to the flat arches above the doors, and sash windows with margin panes to the four/four-pane ground floor returns. Number 1 retains its original roof tiles and cresting. Number 2 has double Roman tiles. Numbers 3 and 4 retain their original roof tiles and cresting. Number 5 has double Roman tiles and a plate glass window to the return. Number 6 has double Roman roof tiles. The interiors have not been inspected.
