Description

This is a terrace of seven early 19th-century houses located on the west side of Bloomfield Road. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs. They are arranged in a straight frontage, with a double depth to the internal valley. Each house has two storeys and a basement, and originally featured two windows at the front. Most windows are plain sashes. However, the first floor of number 8, and both floors of number 18, have twelve-pane sashes. Number 16 has a three-light, flat-roofed dormer. Each house has a panelled door recessed within a plain reveal, topped by a blind transom light with a lozenge design. A small circular window (oculus) is located to the right of the door at numbers 10, 12, 14, and 16. Numbers 6 to 15 have a stone-paved forecourt incorporating a glazed lean-to cover for the basement lights. Number 6 also has steps down to a basement area with a sash window and door. The front elevation is articulated with a ground floor platband, a first floor sill band, an entablature, a blocking course, and a parapet. The party walls are coped with deep ashlar stacks. The interiors were not inspected during the listing process. Attached to the front of the terrace, across its entire frontage and returning at the right-hand end, is a continuous run of simple spiked railings set on a small stone curb, although there are no gates. The terrace was originally intended to include 21 houses, but the final seven were not built.
