Description

These are five terrace houses, built around 1820. They are constructed from limestone ashlar with concrete tile roofs. The houses follow a double-depth plan.

Architecturally, they are two storeys high, with sash windows throughout. Number 13A, likely added slightly later than the others, features twelve-pane sashes on both floors, set back, with a single twelve-pane window above an open, square portico. The portico has plain Doric columns supporting a heavy entablature, and a part-glazed front door with margin panes. To the left of the ground-floor window of Number 13A is a sunk, arched recess which may have been a former doorway. The remaining houses each have paired sashes at the first floor and single sashes below, mostly plain or four-pane, with twelve panes to Number 16 and a replacement window to Number 17. Number 17 is faced in painted ashlar. Each house has an arched doorway to the left with a panelled door and a fanlight. Number 14 has a deep, square timber porch with a flat roof at transom level. A continuous sill band runs along the front, with a balconette to Number 14. The building has a lintel, frieze, cornice, blocking course, and parapet, with ashlar stacks to the right of each house. The rear elevation is painted and has a hipped eaves roof with some additions, and a double-gabled outer end painted black. The interiors have not been inspected. These houses are part of a larger group of buildings arranged around a square, open to the north.
