Description
Rosewyn Villa is a detached villa built around 1825, attributed to the architect John Pinch. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a slate roof. The building has a compact block design, with a contemporary wing set back on the right side and a central entrance leading to a transverse staircase.
The exterior of the villa is two storeys high and has a three-plus-one window arrangement. There is a central light that is blind, with a trompe l'oeil painted window on the first floor. The first-floor windows are four-pane sashes with margin lights surrounding them, while the ground floor features French casements with transoms, all having raised surrounds and floating cornices. Protective spearhead railings are present as well. The low-pitched roof has a deep bracketed soffit and ogee-shaped diagonal corner brackets. To the right, there is a short flight of steps leading to a panelled door, with a sash window at each level on the front face of the wing. A lofty ashlar stack is located at the rear, on the right side.
The interior has not been inspected. Rosewyn Villa is one of a series of five villas that are elevated above the street level in this area. The building was first listed in the Bath Directory in 1829.
