Description

This is a house, built around 1820, and later divided into a pair of houses. Constructed from limestone ashlar and topped with a double Roman tile roof, the house sits on a narrow, double-depth plan. The south front, which faces numbers 13a to 17, is elevated and features a large twelve-pane sash window and a 20th-century glazed door, all sheltered by a moulded cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet. A double-gabled west-facing return has an asymmetrical gable to the right, with two eight-pane sashes above a plain sash and a smaller window, alongside a 20th-century door. An ashlar stack is present on the left-hand gable. A lower wing extends from the right-hand side, having a lean-to roof, and forms a retaining wall for a high pavement. The north-facing front has a plain sash above a 20th-century casement window, angled sharply to the gabled return. The east front contains various windows at two levels. The interior remains uninspected. The property, along with the other houses forming Hatfield Place, occupies a low position at the northeast corner of a square, open to the north.
