Description
No. 35 is a shop that is part of an earlier terrace, built around 1870 with 20th-century additions. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar, with an unseen roof and truncated stacks at the party walls. It has a double depth plan and stands three storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The exterior features a coped parapet, a stopped bracketed cornice, and plate glass sash windows on the upper floors. The first floor has raised surrounds with diagonal extensions at the corners, and there is a ground floor platband.
The central shop door is set back and features a tall overlight, flanked by plate glass windows with moulded sills. Narrow reeded pilasters with fluted caps support a fascia and a narrow cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
To the left of the building, a segmental arch below the platband leads to a flight of stone steps in four stages, with square platforms between and a wrought iron scroll-ended handrail on the left wall. These steps connect Walcot Street with the Paragon.
