Description

This is a terrace house dating from around 1770, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, with a rubble rear and a slate mansard roof. The house is double-depth in its plan and presents three storeys, an attic, and a basement; the rear elevation appears as a full four storeys due to the sloping ground. There are two windows at the front. The windows are mainly twelve-pane sashes, with dormers at each level containing twelve-pane windows, and paired windows to the basement level. The left-hand side features a stone Doric doorcase with three-quarter columns and a closed pediment, all painted. The building has a plinth, platband, moulded cornice, blocking course and parapet, which are continuous with the adjacent No.24. A coped party wall divides the property on the left, and shared brick stacks, one raised in ashlar, are located on the right. The rear elevation has paired and single twelve-pane dormers, along with a small, paired twelve-pane window with a wide flush mullion and a small inserted four-pane window. The first floor has twelve-pane windows, and the ground floor has an eight-pane window, with a door providing access to the basement level. The interior has not been inspected. Simple spearhead railings, set on an ashlar curb with a curved top, enclose the area and return to the end and doorway. It is part of a longer terrace (Nos. 17-26) with some variations, set slightly higher than No.26, and featuring straight joints in the masonry.
