Description
This is a row of four early 19th-century terrace houses located on Lyncombe Hill. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar with slate roofs. They are set on a steep slope, which results in an extra storey at the rear of the properties. Each house is two windows wide, with a lower ground floor. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, and there are laylights above the basement windows. Number 75 has a later mansard roof and two raking dormers. Each house has a doorway to the left, recessed within an arched opening that has double sunk surrounds and a keystone. Number 71 has a plain fanlight, while numbers 73 and 75 retain radial swagged fanlights, and the fanlight to number 77 has been painted over. Number 77 has channelled stonework to the ground floor. All the houses share a mid-level platband, lintel, frieze, cornice, blocking course, and parapet, with two ashlar stacks located to the right of the ridge and flanking the party wall. The rear elevations feature two dormers each, with mainly twelve-pane sashes, a mid-level platband, cornice and parapet mirroring the front. The interior of number 77, inspected in 1985, contains a fine elliptical arched alcove, a staircase with Doric banisters and ornate metalwork, and an old three-drawer dresser in the kitchen.
