Description

Weston Lodge is a large detached house, now divided into apartments, situated on the north side of Deanhill Lane, Weston. The main central block likely dates from around 1700 and was later refaced in the early 18th century. The building is constructed of render over limestone rubble, with rusticated freestone quoins and dressings, and a stone slate roof with moulded stacks to the gable ends.

The house is arranged in four distinct blocks, with a four-unit plan. The central block is a three-storey, four-window range, featuring a coped parapet returned over the gable ends, a cornice, and moulded architraves. Upper floor windows are six-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has plate glass sashes. A half-glazed door to the left has a hood supported by shaped brackets. A quoin is set inside a former quoin, and the parapet does not reach it, indicating evidence of refronting.

To the right is a low, two-storey, two-window range block constructed of rubblestone, likely dating from the 17th century and altered in the 19th century. It features a forward facing gable shouldered over rusticated freestone quoins, with a label mould over a central two-light stone mullioned attic window.

A single-storey, three-window range wing extends to the far right, built of squared limestone rubble with an ashlar parapet, cornice, and frieze. A large segmental bay contains three tall plate glass sash windows. A 19th-century wing is located to the left, echoing the style of the 17th-century block but on a larger scale. An octagonal shaft rises to a tall stack to the left, and a forward facing gable is topped by a metal flag finial. It has triple plate glass windows on the first floor, the central one taller and featuring a Jacobean-style fret over the cornice. A three-light rectangular ground floor bay has a hipped roof reaching the upper sill and large plate glass sash windows with chamfered architraves.

The interiors have not been inspected. The property was formerly Weston Lodge Preparatory School.
