Description
116 Portland Road is a semi-detached house, likely dating from around 1800, and probably built alongside the neighbouring property, number 118. It faces Portland Road and stands opposite a footpath known as Field Row. The house is two storeys high with a basement. The front elevation has two widely spaced, symmetrically arranged sash windows with glazing bars, appearing nearly flush with moulded wooden surrounds. The basement windows are horizontal sashes with glazing bars. The front is rendered with a stucco finish. A central six-panel door is accessed via an overlight. The rear west front, which faces Portland Street across a front garden, features two small windows; the upper ones are modern replacements, while the lower windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The roof is single-span and covered with modern tiles on the west side. A later 19th-century wing was added to the south end of the west side of the building.
