Description
Froyles is a house that dates back to the 16th century but was refronted in the 18th century. It has a timber-framed structure built on a sandstone plinth. The east elevation has been refronted in brick, which is now painted, while the south elevation retains exposed square framing with plastered infill. The building has a tiled roof and consists of two storeys with attics, featuring four windows. There is a brick band and four sash windows with moulded architraves, two of which are tripartite. The attic storey includes two flat-topped domes. The central doorcase is topped with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, and it features a rectangular fanlight above a six-fielded panelled door. An end brick chimney stack is present. In 1806, Dr. Richard Tuppen inherited the property, and it is noted that Charles Dickens was a close friend of his and frequently visited the house.
