Description

The Old Forge is a probable early 19th-century forge located on Denman’s Lane in Lindfield. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof and a tile ridge. The building is single-storied. The front, facing the lane, has a variety of openings, including a stable door to the left of centre, flanked by large square windows set under the eaves. To the right are two small windows with splayed brick heads. At the rear is a short, tapering brick chimney of square plan, topped with a cornice. The interior is believed to have been altered. The building is included on the list as a relatively rare, externally unaltered example of a forge.
