Description

This is a group of three shops at 75, 77, and 79 High Street, Lindfield. The core of numbers 75 and 77 likely originated as a pair of houses in the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the early to mid-19th century. Number 79 is a late-19th century shop front extension to the adjoining properties. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. They have two storeys and attics, displaying a symmetrical facade of four windows, with a central blank space. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top, and painted brick quoins and a string course accentuate the vertical lines. The windows are cambered 12-pane sashes; number 77 retains wooden shutters on its sashes. A central doorcase, dating from the early to mid-19th century, features a cornice and square piers, enclosing recessed four-panelled doors. Number 75 has a late-19th century shop front. The roof is punctuated by three hipped dormers, and brick stacks mark the ends of the building.
