Description
Broad Street House is a Grade II listed house located in Cuckfield, dating from the early 17th century. This three-bay timber-framed structure has been refronted and features a large late 19th-century extension to the right, which is not of special interest. The ground floor is pebbledashed, while the first floor is tile hung, topped by an old tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has one window built into the gable end facing the road, with casement windows throughout. A later doorcase is positioned at the angle with the later wing, and there is a chimney stack located between the second and third bays.
Inside, the house retains its original frame with square panels, diagonal wind braces, and jowled posts. The roof is constructed with Queen post trusses, featuring original tie-beams and a carpenter's mark. A chamfered spine beam with lamb's tongue stops adds to the interior's historical character.
