Description
Teinter Cottage is a pair of early 19th-century houses located on the east side of Cuckfield High Street. The houses are built of red brick, with mathematical tiling to the front bows, and have a tiled roof. The south elevation has tile hanging. The cottages are three storeys high with a semi-basement. They feature two three-light bows, clad with mathematical tiles, extending through all floors, though on the ground floor these are interrupted by modern shop fronts. The original sash windows with multiple panes are retained in No 5. Later 19th-century splayed bays have been inserted into the bows of No 4. A paired central doorcase with a round-headed fanlight, panelled reveals, and a six-panel door (the top four panels fielded, the bottom two flush) is present in each house. No 5 has an additional doorcase of similar design to the north. The entrance is accessed by seven stone steps and has renewed railings that are not in keeping with the original design.
