Description

The Exchange Building, located on the west side of St John’s Street, is an early to mid-19th century structure. It is two storeys high and comprises eight bays. The building has a slate gabled roof and a brick dentilled eaves cornice. The walls are constructed of flint rubble with red brick quoins, dressings, and a wide horizontal lacing course above the first floor, along with vertical lacing courses flanking each window bay. Above the ground floor, each bay contains a small window set in slightly segmental arches, with intact glazing bars. Below, each bay contains a taller window also set in slightly segmental arches. A large modern brick porch has been built out in the centre of the front. The building was formerly known as the Booth Rooms (School of Dancing).
