Description
Greyfriars, also known as the City Council Offices, is an 18th-century building located on North Street. It is two storeys high with an attic and consists of two sections, with the northern frontage being slightly lower. The building features five windows, plus two additional ones in the extension to the north. It is constructed from painted brick and has cornices with modillions. The sash windows are set in flat arches with shallow reveals and retain their glazing bars, while the southern part has flat stuccoed architraves. A prominent feature is the large three-light bow window on the first floor, which has a moulded frieze. There are three dormers and a double doorway in the extension that includes an extra-large semi-circular fanlight. The roof is covered with slate. Inside, there is a good staircase with turned balusters and inlaid stair ends. Greyfriars is part of a group that includes Nos 50 to 63 consecutively and The Ship Hotel, along with No 5 Guildhall Street.
