Description
These are a pair of late 18th-century cottages located on the north side of Westgate. Originally numbered 42 and 41 respectively, they are two storeys with an attic, each featuring one window and one dormer. The tiled roof is higher and less steeply pitched than the adjacent property at number 22. Constructed of red brick, they have a small cornice with modillions beneath the eaves. The windows are sash, set in reveals and topped with segmental arches finished with rubbed brick dressings. Glazing bars are intact in number 26, but missing in number 24. Both have flat-arched doorways with moulded frames and rectangular pediments above. Number 26 has a six-panelled door with the top two panels cut away and glazed; number 24 has the top four panels cut away and glazed. The cottages form a group with numbers 16 to 48 (even).
