Description
This is a terrace of four early 19th-century houses located on St John's Street. They are arranged over three main floors and an attic, with a basement level. Each house originally had two windows facing the street. Modern dormers have been added to numbers 11 and 12. The houses are constructed of yellow brick, with a string course running above the first floor. A cornice is present above the second floors of numbers 11 to 13; number 14 has a modern, plain rendered parapet. The windows are sash windows set within reveals, framed by flat arches constructed with painted or rendered brick voussoirs, except for number 14, which has windows with flush boxes. Balconies are situated in front of the first-floor windows of numbers 11 and 12, and Venetian shutters are fitted to the first-floor windows of numbers 12 and 13. The original glazing bars are still present in all first-floor windows of numbers 11 to 13, but are missing from the ground floor and throughout number 14. Each doorway has a round-headed design with a moulded frame, and features a five or six-panelled door; number 11 has the upper part of its door cut away and fitted with glazing. Semi-circular fanlights are above the doors, with the fanlight at number 11 having curvilinear tracery. Area railings are present at numbers 11, 12, and 13. Numbers 11 to 17 together with number 1 New Town form a cohesive group.
