Description

This early 19th-century property at 5 and 6 St John's Street has been combined into a single house. It is divided into two sections: a three-storey northern portion and a two-storey southern portion, each with two window bays. The northern section has a hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves, while the southern section has a slate roof and a parapet. A cornice runs above the first-floor windows in both sections. The northern section has small windows on the second storey, while the first and ground floor windows are taller. All windows are sash windows set in reveals within flat arches, and retain their original glazing bars. Some sash windows have lugs at ground floor level and on the first floor at the southern end. A three-step approach leads to a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight featuring tracery. The door is set within panelled reveals and a doorcase consisting of Doric pilasters and a rectangular pediment. Number 6 has a six-panelled moulded door to the south, with a rectangular fanlight above and a fluted door frame. A small sash window is visible in a mezzanine area above. The property forms a group with numbers 4 and 6, and the Church of St John.
