Description

The Arundel River Board, built in 1821, consists of a row of terraced cottages. The cottages are constructed from malmstone with yellow brick dressings, and the south elevation features beach flint with red brick dressings. They have hipped slate roofs, with the roofs of Nos 7-15 being steeper than those of Nos 17-25, and a slate-hung gable end at the join. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a yellow brick modillion eaves cornice.

Each cottage has one window range, which includes segment-headed, flush framed double-hung sashes with glazing bars. However, No 25 has straight-headed windows, and the ground floor window of No 23 is set in reveals with red brick dressings. No 7 has two window ranges and a shop front on the ground floor of each. The south side shop front is flush with the wall and features incised line decoration on the frame and glazing bars. The north side shop front is a bay supported on wooden brackets, also with glazing bars. No 15 has a similar bay shop front supported on brackets, with incised line decoration, double-hung sashes, and glazing bars.

Each cottage has one door, typically grouped in pairs, except for Nos 7, 23, and 25. The doors are six-panelled, some with glazing inserted, while Nos 25, 11, and 7 have modern doors. The doorways are framed with pediments above, featuring incised line decoration on the pilasters and frieze. No 25 has a round arched doorway in plain reveals with a blocked fanlight. The cottages from Nos 7 to 25 are supported by gutters on iron brackets and form a cohesive group.
