Description

34 Surrey Street is an early 19th-century building, despite the modern '1705' scratched into the recent rendering on the ground floor in two places. It has two storeys and a basement, featuring one window on the east side and three windows on the south side. The building is constructed of painted brick. The east front includes a glazing bar sash window above a triangular-headed shop window. There is a corner doorway with pilasters, a painted entablature, a projecting cornice supported by triple brackets, and curved double doors that are partially glazed with panelled reveals.

On the south front, there are glazing bar sash windows and a blind panel on the first floor. The ground floor features two large shop windows (one measuring 7 by 4 panes and the other 5 by 4 panes) alongside one original glazing bar sash window set under a rubbed brick cambered arch. The entrance to the former No 36 is still visible but blocked, featuring fluted pilasters and an entablature. The former No 38 has a contemporary shop window with restored glazing bars, flanked by engaged Tuscan columns, and an altered triple window above with a wooden lintel. The corner is slightly bevelled. The west side is stuccoed and includes the entrance to No 32A. The building has a hipped slate roof and a modillion eaves cornice.
