Description

The building at 41-45 High Street dates to the later 18th century and presents a symmetrical facade. It is constructed of painted brick with horizontal bands marking the storeys, with more elaborate moulded detailing to the second floor. A moulded coved cornice runs along the top of the building. The attic floor is set back and features a small, tiled terrace in front, and is covered in tile hanging. The roof has a steep pitch and is covered in old tiles, with gabled and hipped ends. There are five small sash windows in the attic. The second floor has five flush-framed sash windows, with the central four panes of the original windows still present. The first floor features a central canted bay window with sash lights and glazing bars, a shallow cornice, and a panelled apron, located above number 43. Four additional first-floor windows are present, three of which are flush-framed sashes with intact glazing bars, and one at number 45. The left-hand window of number 41 has been enlarged and contains six fixed panes of glass.

The ground floor features a modern glazed entrance door at number 41, with an early 18th-century cornice hood supported by shaped brackets. Modern shop windows, styled in an early 19th-century fashion with one bowed, flank the entrance. Number 43 has a modern narrow window with glazing bars and a glazed door within a modern stucco pilaster frame, which includes a frieze and cornice. Number 45 has an early 19th-century door consisting of six flush panels set within a panelled reveal, alongside a modern, Regency-style bowed shop window framed by thin pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice.

Numbers 37 to 51 (odd) form a group with numbers 50 to 58 (even) and number 64.
